ALIGNMENT:

                               Align yourself with God...
                                                               

Yogasana is much like geometry, but with the body. We know that certain geometric shapes are able to activate, stimulate, or draw in various energies. Consider the wonders of the Egyptian Pyramids, the mysteries of the Bermuda Trangle, or even the ancient techniques of combining geometrical shapes to form yantras,  a visual mantra. 
("The purpose of a Yantra is to focus spiritual and mental energies, to improve health, wealth, childbearing or the invoking of one God or another. It is made is such a way that the male and female energy patterns of the universe interact and produce a high level spiritual energy." )
  
                                                      
                                    
Similiarly, each asana is designed to create a certain energy within our body.  Imagine that the wisdom of the earth is resting above us, in the stars, the planets, galaxies and universe, and from down here we can align ourselves in specific ways to pick up those signals. Somewhat like an antenna....by partial definition:
"a conductor by which electromagnetic waves are sent out or received".
We too are great transmitters of energy and the idea is to align ourselves in a way that is harmonious with that of our mother earth and father universe. When a being is a host to a body of inner harmony, that being is then able to transmitt love, light, joy, compassion and kindness towards all beings everywhere. (Even our inferior brother and sisters, the animals!  DM adaptation) Dharma often suggests the benefits of "pretending" to have the same virtues someone that God manifest through more than you.   

With this in mind, we will  take a look at the mechanics and structure of the
body. We will perform exercises that help us connect to the "core" of our being so we can move from that space. We will create space in the lumbar spine and SI joint in order  to move out of our "lower back" and into our hearts. We will learn rotation that allows the shoulders to relax so we are not continuing to build tension in an already "overstressed" area.  The idea behind proper alignment,
from  this perspective anyway, is not to get stuck in the physical plane, or even
to say that one way is right and another wrong.  Every pose should always bloom through  "organic expression", something that comes form within you, nothing that can be taught. Well, can be taught, but only psychically. Asana can help us open  to higher frequencies and become receptive to higher wisdoms.  Align yourself witin, then outwardly express. Even better is when the posture is an expression of inner devotion and love, free from ego. When this level of purity is reached, one rarely gets injured.
Even when we do get injured, it's all part of the divine guidance.  Injuries teach us so much that it is really a purification process. Often to do with losing the ego, but not always.   However, with an understanding and awareness of some fundamental principles, we can align ourselves in a way that is safe and most effective for revealing a deeper truth.  Free from struggle, we can go beyond the physical and start to recognize more of the subtle effects of our asana practice.
